President's Message
Sarasota, Sunset Chapter #296,
deserves a huge applause for three days of spectacular events
Under the Big Top. The conference hotel was upscale and
beautiful. Social events were exciting, the food was delicious,
and the participants were friendly and having fun. I was pleased
to meet with chapter presidents from so many different areas of
Florida. The representation exceeded expectations.
The room was at capacity on Thursday
evening for Bambi Lockmans opening session. For those who were
unable to enter the room or those who did not get to the
conference until Friday, the slide show will be loaded on the
website. Don Deshler certainly launched the participants into
the Learning Zone Friday morning, and Beth Harry piqued our
interest with Helmets, scooters, and bikes to symbolize
equity.
Although Sarasota is now a memory,
the skills and strategies obtained during this conference will
continue throughout the year. The sessions provided information
across the spectrum of special education services and
exceptionalities. CEC Conferences are the only places where
teachers have access to information to serve the diversity that
is found in todays classrooms. Please share your successes and
your personal stories through the FCEC newsletter. Be sure to
surf through the website and take a look at student chapter
activities. Student chapters are professionals of tomorrow.
CEC membership is one of your most
valuable assets. This is your professional organization and your
participation keeps it alive. The state board is composed of CEC
members across the state. Leadership in your local chapter is
the first step toward leadership at the state level.
Mark your calendars for June 12 and
13, 2009 for the
Florida CEC Leadership Institute in Crystal
River, at the Plantation Inn. The leadership institute begins
Friday evening and ends Saturday afternoon.
I look forward to seeing you in
Crystal River!
Janet
